We had a great weekend diving from North Stradbroke Island last weekend. We caught the 12.45 pm ferry on Saturday and went straight to Amity Point for a dive under the jetty. Got there a little bit late and the tide was running out making thing a little bit tricky with the camera's. Saw lots of nudibranchs, some cool blennies, a couple of eels and the usual fish life hanging out.
On Sunday morning we dived out of Point Lookout with Point Lookout Scuba Charters. First dive at Flat Rock saw us in the water with 5 Grey Nurse Sharks, with one getting very close and having a "sniff" at Aaron's fins. Sadly there was also one shark with a hook and a big ball of growth hanging off it.
We saw a couple of interesting nudibranchs that we hadn't spotted before, and some banded coral shrimp, then nearly headbutted a Wobbegong Shark that had stopped in a very unexpected place.
Next stop - Manta Ray Bommie, but the water looked green and the vis was very poor. We decided to dive Shag Rock instead. I wasn't impressed about this, but soon changed my mind when Aaron found a couple of mating cuttlefish right under the boat, and then a Leaf Scorpionfish only a few metres away. Aaron got some beautiful shots of various coral crabs, and I was happy with my cuttlefish efforts.
(Check out the photo gallerys for Flat Rock, Shag Rock and Amity Jetty for photos from these dives...)
Back to the beach by 11am and we were on the 12 noon ferry home.
Only a flying visit, but all in all a great weekend.
